Gerard Matthews is a documentary filmmaker based in Little Rock, Arkansas.

BIO

I have a degree in political science from the University of Central Arkansas. I have a master's degree in media and public affairs from the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University. I was an associate editor at the Arkansas Times from 2008 to 2011. I was the director of communications for Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families from 2012 to 2016. I'm a freelance producer, videographer, photographer, and documentary filmmaker. I also fancy myself a food writer, a musician, and a book lover. I have travelled extensively in France and am a fluent French speaker. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, reading, playing music, watching documentaries and spending time with friends and family.

MISSION

My mission is to create videos that help small businesses and nonprofits tell their story in a way that’s compelling and honest so they can reach new audiences and achieve their strategic goals.

My background is in journalism and strategic communication. I know how to get to the heart of an issue and tell stories in a compelling way. If you tell me your goals, your audience, and your call to action, I’ll take care of creating a video or short film that executes your vision. We will figure out the details together and I’ll take it from there. Anyone can point a camera at something. I take on the role of producer, helping you find and piece together all the elements that are going to make a great video. You tell me what you need and I run with it.

WORK

I'm a documentary filmmaker. I’m a producer and videographer. I'm a writer. I'm a photographer. At the heart of all of that, really, is storytelling. I'm based in Little Rock, but I work all over the South, and beyond. If you’re interested in learning how to create videos on your own, check out my other website, The Crash Course.
